The Corbeil-Essonnes town hall immediately filed a complaint. Damages were committed on Monday on his war memorial, Allée Aristide-Briand. The next morning, an elected official who passed by noticed that two commemorative plaques dedicated to the memory of the fighters from Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia, to the memory of the Resistance fighters, Refractories and Deportees of the Second World War and to the memory of the veterans of the first French army commanded by General de Lattre de Tassigny, had been broken at the foot of the monument.

“We thought about the desecrated cemeteries, we were shocked,” says the mayor, Bruno Piriou (DVG). Was it a malicious act? Who was attacking Republican representation, in memory of foreign soldiers who fought for France?…” These questions were quickly answered, because the entire scene was filmed, Monday evening around 9:15 p.m., by video surveillance cameras from the city.

A tape that the mayor watched. “It was a surprise. Our imaginations are thwarted. It’s not an adult who breaks it, there’s no reasoned intention, that’s what’s reassuring. It’s a child, around five years old, walking behind an adult, perhaps his father, who is on his phone. The kid pushes a plate which breaks. Hearing the noise, the adult turns around and comes to see him, but it doesn’t seem to bother him. He leaves, followed by the child, who turns around and drops and breaks another plate, says Bruno Piriou. The adult comes back and they leave! »

A reaction that shocks the elected official: “The child is not responsible. But the adult is showing irresponsibility. There may be a careless error in the breakage of the first plate. Not on the second. He totally underestimates what a war memorial represents. If it’s my child, I will apologize, I will inform. There, he left as if nothing had happened. It’s worrying. »

The man in question is being identified. “I hope there will be a sanction,” wishes the elected official. These plates will be replaced as soon as possible. »
