Guadeloupe: The first edition of the Antilles-Guyana Architecture Days organized in Pointe à Pitre

The JAAG aims to explore the similarities and diversities of built heritage, as well as the contemporary urban challenges these regions face. This event will offer an overview of the specificities of each territory, with the aim of promoting the sharing of ideas, methods and know-how, as well as mutual enrichment through human exchange.
On the program for these two days of reflection, visits to remarkable operations, round tables hosted and enriched by guests from MA Corse and MA PACA, debates, feedback on common or otherwise experiences, and moments festive, around two related themes.

The first, cultural or natural landscape and urban identity, Thursday May 23 at 2:30 p.m. at the ACTe Memorial. This theme aims to understand how the cultural and natural landscape influences urban identity and the design of public spaces in our territories. It will outline an evolution of architecture and town planning in our regions in response to the tropical or equatorial climate, and the integration of the hazards which characterize our architectures, such as natural ventilation and shading in the design of buildings.

The second, contemporary urban challenges and solutions, on Friday May 24 at the Pavillon de la Ville de Pointe-à-Pitre. This theme will analyze the contemporary urban challenges facing our territories, such as urban sprawl, the desertification of town centers, vacant and unsanitary housing, and the need to rethink our ways of constructing cities and buildings through the prism of durability. It will examine the urban solutions implemented in our territories to address these challenges, including green building practices, urban renewal projects and initiatives aimed at preserving cultural heritage and optimizing its tourism value.

The round tables and debates will be broadcast simultaneously in the three participating territories and on the Network of Houses of Architecture. A chat will be open during the debates to allow questions from the public to be transmitted. This event is part of a process of cooperation and strengthening of links between the DFA, aiming to promote common reflection on the urban future of these territories.

Many partners are behind the event, with the Directorate of Cultural Affairs of Guadeloupe, DEAL Guadeloupe, Les Petites Villes de Demain, La Région Guadeloupe, the Departmental Council of Guadeloupe, the City of Pointe-à-Pitre , the City of Morne-à-L’Eau, the Order of Architects of Guadeloupe, the CAUE of Guadeloupe, the Network of Houses of Architecture, and The ACTe Memorial.
