“We try to plan realistic projects”, answers us Jean-Charles Kohlhaasvice-president in charge of travel, intermodality and urban logistics for the Lyon Metropolis and vice-president of Sytral.

“There will be no new projects on the metro aspect,” confirms the elected environmentalist. “The plan will include the west Lyon express tramway (TEOL) which can be considered as a light metro,” he said while the metropolitan opposition is up in arms against the abandonment of the E metro.

“If we build a metro, we don’t do anything else for 15 years”

“A consultation carried out in 2021 showed that no metro project is necessary in the metropolis. We don’t need a metro,” says Jean-Charles Kohlhaas. “In the metro E project, only one station justified its construction in relation to the population density.”

If we build a metro, we don’t do anything else for 15 years. Our choices allow us to have 7 or 8 major projects. We already have an ambitious metro plan in the Metropolis! The current metro is at the end of its life. Our predecessors did nothing. We have made a plan to modernize the metro at nearly 2 billion euros.

“Those who promise a metro plan during the elections know nothing about mobility, those who promise pharaonic projects during the electoral campaign are in lies and denial,” attacks the elected official.

In October 2023, several opposition mayors demanded and proposed the creation of a major “urgent and ambitious” metro plan. A desire according to them to push for the relaunch of the E metro in the west and to extend the existing lines, in particular the B to the north, the A to the east and the D towards the western plateau.
