The restructuring at Migros affects the cooperatives. Ticino and Lucerne want to cooperate more in logistics. 40 positions are affected and layoffs are “not excluded”.

The Migros Lucerne cooperative will be responsible for logistics for its Ticino counterpart until 2030, ensuring the transport of goods via the Gotthard tunnel. Nearly 40 positions could be affected by this restructuring. Asked by CH Media (of which Watson is a part) about possible layoffs, Migros replied:

“Layoffs cannot be completely ruled out at this stage”

The Migros Lucerne cooperative “will ensure the preparation of orders” for all the brand’s stores in Ticino “with its installations and automated systems in the Dierikon operating center”, located to the north of the large city in central Switzerland, specifies the press release published Monday.

Fusion major logistics

The goods will be classified by store and loaded into containers which will arrive in Ticino at night by train after passing through the Gotthard tunnel. From Sant’Antonino, trucks will take over to transport the containers to the stores. The Sant’Antonino site is maintained and retains its function as an important logistics node in Ticino, assured the orange giant.

Mattia Keller, director of Migros Ticino, quoted in the press release, explains:

“This flagship logistics project shows how we can exploit synergies between regional cooperatives”

The merger of the logistics of the Lucerne-Ticino region is part of a major restructuring.

The distributor adds that “support will be offered over the next five years to Migros Ticino staff impacted by the change in order to enable them to find a solution for the future within or outside Migros Ticino”, without however specifying their number.

“Thanks to the simplification of the logistics landscape, this solution is not only beneficial for the Lucerne and Ticino cooperatives, but also for the entire Migros group,” explained Guido Rast, director of Migros Lucerne, failing to give figures on the savings made. Last February, the orange giant announced a vast restructuring, including job cuts and sale of activities. (at/please)

The Federal Council wants to save around 60 million francs per year in public transport. The cantons are warning against a reduction in services and an increase in prices. While the car is already significantly cheaper than the train, bus and tram.

The Federal Council wants to save money and the public transport sector is not spared. Indeed, the elimination of subsidies planned for new night trains from 2025, for a maximum amount of 30 million francs per year, has sparked criticism. But while this measure concerns connections that do not yet exist and a few tens of thousands of passengers per year at most, another could result in more expensive tickets and a worse offer for millions of commuters.
