The administrative court of Caen (Calvados) rejected the requests of a farm located on the border between Orne and Calvados, which contested compensation for its slaughtered cattle herd. Following the discovery of cases of bovine tuberculosis in 2022, the two farmers had to send their 225 dairy cows and 156 beef cows to the slaughterhouse.

A dispute of €111,814
To compensate for the losses, the prefect of Orne set the amount of compensation at €815,018, while experts estimated the damage at €926,832. It is this difference of €111,814 which was the subject of the dispute, judged on March 12, 2024.
But the court found the methods and amounts of compensation retained by the prefect compliant, and the farm’s arguments concerning the good performance of the cattle, which would justify a higher price, not admissible.
