MUNICIPAL. Two major residential development projects are currently on the table in Sainte-Claire. One at the end of Richard and Renaud streets and the other on Bégin boulevard.

However, these projects are not accepted by everyone, agrees the mayor of Sainte-Claire, Guylaine Aubin. “As soon as there are development projects, we go to public consultations. We received a petition and held a public consultation which attracted around fifty people. There have also been questions at council meetings since last January on these subjects. »

In the case of the Richard and Renaud project, the zoning for a project of this type has been compliant within the urban perimeter since 2018. The site could accommodate eight buildings of 12 housing units each, except that the developer, Immeubles BPL, is to review certain aspects, after certain consultations with the population.

Another housing project is on the table and would be located in the heart of the village, on Bégin Boulevard. The group, Immeubles Janos, which initiated the matter is currently conducting a consultation via social networks to get the pulse of the community.

In both cases, the mayor believes that developers must answer citizens’ questions to dispel certain fears or misunderstandings. “The one on Boulevard Bégin is located on land which overlooks both the boulevard and Rue Principale. The promoter group is currently in consultation and must demonstrate to us that there is social acceptability. For the other project, the promoter is in the process of making modifications which will be presented to us soon,” she indicates.

However, she agrees that there is a need for housing in the area. “There is a huge need and that is why the municipality is there to look at the projects with the developers. It is certain that any development disrupts the environment of citizens who have lived there for some time. People wonder about water management, traffic and other things and that’s normal. »

She adds that multi-family is the number one need in the locality. “There have been some in each of the developments carried out in the past, but we see it everywhere, the demand is there. We still have single-family land, but the demand is for multi-family, or apartments. »
