Lucie Castets candidate for the partial legislative election in Isère? Pressure mounts on the NFP figure

Since the resignation of LFI deputy Hugo Prévost on October 9 after accusations of sexist and sexual violence made against him, a seat has been vacant at the Palais Bourbon. It will be filled in a few weeks after a legislative by-election.

On the left, many voices are being raised to push Lucie Castets to run as a candidate. “It’s part of the scenarios. First, does Lucie Castets really want to become an MP? In each of their speeches, the representatives of the New Popular Front take care to specify that she will be a candidate “if she wishes”. Nothing has been done and the main person concerned has not yet spoken publicly on the subject.

Then there is the question of her parachuting into a constituency she does not know. A native of Caen (Calvados), Lucie Castets moved to Paris to study and then to work but never lived in Grenoble, the central city of the district. Finally, the suspense remains over the possibility for the former finance director of the City of Paris to join an NFP group, and therefore to choose among the four training courses. In fact, its strength has until now been to place itself above the bickering between left-wing parties. If she accepts the nomination in the first constituency of Isère, marked LFI, this will force her to join a group. For Manuel Bompard and Éric Coquerel, there is no doubt: she will have to side with the Insoumis.

A Castets-Véran duel to come?

Whatever the case, the idea for Lucie Castets is to anchor herself politically. Without a mandate, without local roots, it would for the first time be thrown into the forefront of political life, mixed up in the cauldron of the Assembly. Especially since after announcing at the end of August that she was ending her duties at Paris town hall, the enarque has no new job.

Since this summer, she has continued her meal tour and responded positively to the invitations extended to her by left-wing elected officials: Sunday, she was in Hérouville-Saint-Clair (Manche), accompanied by PS deputies Arthur Delaporte, Anna Pic and Chantal Jourdan . If she were a candidate in Isère, Lucie Castets would perhaps have to face Olivier Véran, who was a candidate in the last three legislative elections in this constituency. The last time, the LFI deputy won with only 1,300 votes in advance. No date has yet been set for the organization of the by-election, even if the electoral code specifies that it must take place within three months after resignation. This gives the left forces some time to discuss.
