SENEGAL-RELIGION-EDUCATION / The “daaras”, an essential link in the Senegalese education system (IEF) – Senegalese press agency

Saint-Louis, Oct 14 (APS) – Daaras (Koranic schools) constitute an essential link in the Senegalese education system, declared Monday in Saint-Louis, Bassirou Kassé, Inspector of Education and Training (IEF) of Pété, a commune in the Podor department (north).

”The daaras constitute an essential link in the Senegalese education system. It is therefore normal, before taking this project to the level of the National Assembly for the vote, to collect the opinions of the main actors of the daaras in order to be able to refine the document so that it is a consensual tool on which everyone will be based on improving the functioning of the daaras,” said Mr. Kassé on the sidelines of a broader focus workshop on the bill establishing the status of the Daaras.

The objective of this workshop, according to him, is quite simply to take care of daaras correctly in the Senegalese education system in the same way as preschool schools, elementary schools but also private schools.

And to succeed in this challenge, inclusive management is necessary which, according to him, has been initiated by the Minister of National Education Moustapha Mamba Guirassy since his arrival at the head of this ministerial department.

He also recalled that all the actors from all the academies will receive this delegation to gather everyone’s opinions on the bill in the finalization phase.

Coming to take part in this workshop, the Secretary General of the National Federation of Koranic School Associations of Senegal (FNAECS), Serigne Mansour Sambe, magnified the approach of the new authorities which, according to him, aims to put in place charters to take responsible for the concerns of Koranic schools.

Koranic masters, Arabic language inspectors, among other personalities took part in this workshop organized at the Lycée technique André Peytavin (LTAP) in Saint-Louis.
