On June 26, 2023, the Métropole de Lyon deliberated on the subject of the amplification of the Low Emission Zone. A project adjusted following broad public consultation for a better understanding and therefore appropriation of the system by individuals and economic actors. To improve air quality for everyone. Scope, timetable and financial aid: overview of the elements to remember.
A single and simplified scope
The perimeter of the current ZFE is retained (Lyon, Villeurbanne, Caluire-et-Cuire, Bron and Vénissieux), and supplemented from January 1, 2024 by the following expressways: the M6, the M7, boulevard Laurent Bonnevay and the Northern ring road of Lyon (BPNL).
A consistent calendar
Crit’Air 4 private vehicles will no longer be able to circulate in the ZFE from January 1, 2024.
Crit’Air 3 vehicles, for their part, will no longer be able to circulate from January 1, 2025. The rule will then be identical for individuals and professionals. The ban on Crit’Air 2 and unclassified vehicles will take effect on January 1, 2028. Please note: Crit’Air 2 vehicles will remain authorized on the M6, M7, boulevard Laurent Bonnevay and BPNL routes.
Simplified exemptions, reinforced aid
Individuals or professionals, “small riders” who use their vehicle less than 52 days per year will be able to continue to drive, if they request it. Exemptions are provided for professionals who have recently equipped themselves with Crit’Air 2, and for those who deliver to markets and short food circuits. The Metropolis has also increased by €1,000 aid to individuals for the acquisition of their own vehicle since September 1, 2023.
