The formation of the new majority was sealed at 5:30 a.m. after a visibly tense night of negotiations. Like a fairly aggressive electoral campaign on the part of the liberals against the socialists and the Greens and, above all, a divergent vision of the city. This did not prevent Philippe Close from congratulating David Weytsman for his very good score and inviting him, around 8 p.m. last night, to start negotiations.

An appointment was made at the office of the Federal Minister of Pensions and municipal councilor for the City Karine Lalieux (PS). At the PS, Philippe Close, Karine Lalieux, Faouzia Hariche and Anaïs Maes led the negotiations. Opposite, the MR presented David Weytsman, Alain Courtois, Florence Frelinx and Jacques Oberwoits, municipal councilor in the City of Brussels since 1976 and absent from the MR + list for this election.

Both parties confirm that the negotiations were not easy, even “very tense” at certain times. They finally reached an agreement offering three alderman positions and the presidency of the CPAS, which should go to Florence Frelinx (1,464 votes), to the liberals. The MR also obtained Sports, Green Spaces, Civil Status, management of public buildings, Animal Welfare, Citizen Participation, Climate and Neighborhood Contracts. Many subjects, nevertheless peripheral. We already know that Alain Courtois will not run for a new term as alderman. For his part, David Weytsman assures that the choice of people will take place in a second phase, he himself seems not to know if he will take the post of First Alderman in the capital.

Didier Wauters (Les Engagés) will join the alderman’s college, he will take care of economic affairs, employment and training.

The socialists obtained five aldermanships and the post of mayor. And keep the “regal” subjects that are dear to them such as education, culture (major events), town planning or mobility/public works. Cleanliness returns to the socialist fold.
