The Remparts run out of sparks against Lacelle

“The defenders, the attackers, everyone blocked shots. We kept it simple, it was easy saves for me,” said the 16-year-old goalkeeper.

Although they were more energetic than the day before, during their victory at the hands of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. Éric Veilleux’s men lacked finishing in the opposing zone, which prevented them from generating real chances to score. The team was limited to 19 shots.

After Friday’s match, the head coach of the Remparts expected a better performance from his team against the Océanic. The result unfortunately did not live up to his expectations.

“No, that didn’t happen,” Eric Veilleux immediately said after the meeting.

“With the team we have, we need everyone to show up for 60 minutes. Today we weren’t skating, at some point you have to fight for the puck. Our battles were not there.”

“Yes the goalkeeper [adverse] played a good game, but we still threw in the gut a few times.”

After a timid first period on both sides, the Océanic players put their foot on the accelerator in the second by finding the back of the net three times.

Maxime Coursol (3rd of the season) was the first to open the scoring, taking advantage of the lack of vigilance of the Red Devils goalkeeper, Louis-Antoine Denault.

The Remparts netminder was shaky, particularly in the second period, allowing a lot of shot returns to the opponent. The 6.8 giant had to compromise to stop the Oceanic’s attacks

Dominic Pilote leveled the score with his first of the season, and Quinn Kennedy (3rd of the season) also threaded the needle when he took advantage of a turnover by Remparts defender Alexandre Desmarais.

In the third period, Alexandre Blais put the final nail in the coffin for the locals.

It was the first duel of the season between the two Eastern Conference rivals.

Finishing and inexperience

After a great start to the season, marked by very good offensive performances, the Remparts now find themselves in a bit of lethargy.

Despite only two goals in two games, there is no panic within the organization.

“I don’t think we have an offensive problem, we can find that [l’étincelle] easily,” indicated 20-year veteran Benjamin Vigneault.

By Vigneault’s admission, the Remparts’ inexperience is a challenge this season, especially against teams aspiring to great honors.

“It can be impressive, the first three lines are 18, 19 year old guys. These are teams that are going there for the cup, so they are good challenges.

Same story from his trainer. “I’m not going to start throwing stones at anyone.”

The Red Devils pilot confirms that it is a challenge for his young team to cross swords against seasoned clubs. He intends to emphasize finishing in games in the opposing zone over the coming weeks.

The Océanic continues its momentum

Before Saturday’s match, Océanic head coach Joel Perrault made it a point of honor for his players to score the first goal of the match.

Several times this season the Bas-Saint-Laurent team has had to come from behind. Saturday’s performance is a step in the right direction, according to Perreault.

“We have a team with a lot of experience, a lot of depth. The fact remains that you have to start the match on time.”

After eight games on the road, the Océanic only has one road game left before returning to their fans at home.

A return home which will be good for the morale of the team, even if the trip helped to build bonds between the players.

“The start of the season was difficult because we were missing a lot of players. Since everyone has returned, I feel like things are starting to fall into place,” concluded the instructor.

The Océanic thus continues its winning streak with a fourth consecutive victory.

For their part, the Remparts will resume action on Monday, when they will visit the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.
