In the affair of the “farm of 10,000 pigs” in Priziac (Morbihan) – which pits the pig farm against a local environmental association – an emblematic case of the mobilizations against the “factory farms” of Central , the truth of ‘one day is not the next day in administrative justice.

After obtaining the cancellation of the extension to 10,266 heads of the Lichouët pig farm in Priziac before the administrative court of (Ille-et-Vilaine) on December 21, 2023, the opposing association Ar Gaouenn became disillusioned on the 19 September 2024: the summary judge of the administrative court of appeal of (-Atlantique) pronounced the “stay of execution” of this decision.

A fundamental analysis within 10 to 18 months

The breeder is thus re-authorized to exploit the maximum capacity of 10,266 animal equivalents, granted by the prefect of Morbihan in April 2021, until the substantive examination – by three judges – of his appeal provided for in a period of 10 to 18 months. “This simple suspension, decided by a single judge, in no way prejudges the analysis that will be made on the merits,” specifies Me Ferté-Devin, lawyer for the Ar-Gaouenn association.

The conclusion of the investigation – namely the exchange of arguments between the parties – has been set for the beginning of November 2024. Opponents of the project hope that the court will require regularization of the environmental authorization.

The breeder should remain on his line of defense and remember that “the modifications envisaged are not of a substantial nature”. This is what was retained by the summary judge to suspend the judgment.
