His announcement moved French tennis fans. Richard Gasquet has decided that he will stop tennis at the end of Roland-Garros 2025. In “Le Studio des Légendes” on Europe 1, the 38-year-old looks back, with Jacques Vendroux, on his career, but also on the the current generation of French players for whom he predicts a great future.

At the end of a brilliant career, Richard Gasquet announced this week that he will retire from professional tennis at the end of the 2025 Roland-Garros tournament. At the microphone of Jacques Vendroux, in The Studio of Legends on Europe 1, the native of Béziers returned to the new generation of French tennis which is already shining on the ATP circuit.

“Why not someone who wins a Grand Slam one day?

Arthur Fils, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Hugo Gaston and Arthur Cazaux are now the new faces of French tennis with the future retirement of Richard Gasquet. The latter says: “They are all very, very good players who play very well.” He believes that Arthur Fils “has taken a bit of a lead because he is very young and he is in the top 20”. The world number 18 won the Hamburg and Tokyo tournaments this year.

Richard Gasquet also does not forget Ugo Humbert who “is still in the top 20” in the world. He believes that the current generation of French tennis has “a future that can be enormous” with players like Luca Van Assche or Corentin Moutet as well. Among them, “why not one who wins a Grand Slam one day? In any case, they must believe in it,” says the Olympic bronze medalist in doubles.
