“I can confirm that a man is currently the subject of an arrest warrant in connection with a violent robbery against the Azerbaijani ambassador. We will not communicate further at this stage.” confirms Amaury Verhoustraeten, deputy of the King’s prosecutor and spokesperson for the Brussels public prosecutor’s office.
That day, the victims had barely left their home when they were attacked by two suspects. According to the victims’ testimony, one of them was armed with a revolver with which he hit the ambassador and his wife in the head. The latter bled profusely following the blow, we wrote on August 6, 2024. The perpetrators of the theft then fled with the two luxury watches worth 90,000 euros each.
A second suspect
The victims, for their part, were taken to hospital for a check-up following these traumatic events.
Our sources also tell us that a minor was once deprived of his liberty in this case, the police suspecting him of being one of the two thieves. After twelve days of IPPJ, he was released not without difficulty, the first suspect having charged him during his hearing in order to cover his tracks concerning his accomplice, our sources tell us.
The second suspect would therefore still be at large.
