Investing in rail safety is essential to reduce risks, prevent accidents, keep Canada’s rail corridors running and connect Canadians. The government is committed to ensuring the highest levels of security and safety throughout the country.

The Honorable Anita Anand, President of the Treasury Board and Minister of Transport, today announced more than $45 million for projects to improve rail safety across Canada.

This amount includes nearly $44 million for 231 rail safety projects carried out under the Rail Safety Improvement Program. This funding helps improve safety at level crossings and along railway lines by supporting infrastructure modernization and educating Canadians about the importance of adopting safe behavior near trains and railways. railway tracks.

Today’s announcement also includes nearly $1.2 million under the Program to Improve Rail Safety Mobilization. This program supports Indigenous and local communities to develop rail safety awareness campaigns, data collection practices and educational resources, and to engage with Transport Canada to improve rail safety practices. security.

Through the Rail Safety Engagement Program and the Rail Safety Improvement Program, the government is strengthening communities across the country, addressing current safety concerns and keeping Canadians safe.
