Change of era in Senegal. Aliou Cissé, winner of the African Cup of Nations in 2021, was removed from his post as coach at the beginning of October, after nine years of service. And the Lions of Téranga will experience their first meeting with Pape Thiaw at their head, Friday for the third day of the qualifiers for the 2025 African Cup of Nations.

Facing Malawi, the interim coach will try to revive a team still affected by its disappointment at the last CAN (eliminated in the round of 16 by Côte d’Ivoire, future winner of the event). Thiaw must deal with the injury of Brestois Abdallah Sima, but can always count on a fiery attack led by Sadio Mané.

After their victory in Burundi (0-1) and their draw against Burkina Faso (1-1), the Senegalese are co-leaders of Group L with four units. As a reminder, only the first two groups will qualify for the competition which will be held in Morocco, from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026. On October 15, the two selections will meet at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

The Senegal-Malawi kick-off is scheduled for this Friday, October 11, at 9 p.m. The match will be followed live on beIN Sports Max 6.
