At a time when the appeal gentle mobility never has been so promoted to the general publicare habits nevertheless undergoing profound change? A study carried out by Ifop (Institute of opinion and marketing studies in ) for Alphabet, a consulting company in mobility solutions for businesses, allows us to find out more about practices in -Pas-de-for the commuting. And it is clear that the choice of car is difficult : 76% of assets of the territory use one to get to work (personal or business), this is 2% more than the national average. 16% of respondents opt for public transport (compared to 23% on average in France).

76% of working people in Nord-Pas-de-Calais take the car for an average journey of 22 km

Among these residents of the region who travel daily by car, 82% drive petrol or diesel (88% on average in France) and 14% an electric or hybrid vehicle (compared to 11% in France). However, the study still reveals that 52% of motorists say they want to switch to a hybrid or electric engine when changing vehicles.

Methodology point: Ifop data for Alphabet were collected in June 2024 from 1002 active French people, then broken down according to regions of origin. Another important aspect, among motorists, some play the game of multimodalityand thus complete the journey by car with another means of transport. They represent 30% of the active population in Nord-Pas-de-Calais, use at least two modes of travel on the way to work.

Locally, it is further underlined, the average distance and travel time are 22 kilometers and 24 minutes. Whatever the transport, the hardship is a criterion taken into account by the majority of inhabitants of the region: for 71%, it weighs in the balance when applying or staying in a company. Overcrowding is the inconvenience that most affects those surveyed, ahead of the risk of delay and loss of time.

8% have a company vehicle

If only 8% of respondents say they benefit from a company or service vehicle (for 20% of them, it is an electric or hybrid car), 50% still say they have the possibility of benefiting from mobility solutions via their company (19% benefit from reimbursement of public transport tickets; 5% from reimbursement of mileage costs).

The desire to change their current mode of transport is in any case very present among 75% of inhabitants of the region: 44% would like their journey between home and work to be more economical and faster (38%) in the future.
