The government wants to ask communities for new financial efforts as part of the 2025 draft budget. An unfair request for the mayor of Brec’h who is also president of the association of mayors of Morbihan.
The arbitrations are eagerly awaited…. it is this Thursday, October 10 that the government presents to the Council of Ministers the draft finance law. Among the avenues mentioned for making savings, there are efforts requested from communities, efforts to the tune of 5 billion euros for cities, departments and regions.
Efforts that worry Fabrice Robelet. “We are being singled out a little”explains the mayor of Brec’h and president of the association of mayors of Morbihan. “Our stratum of communities has always been exemplary in the management of its accounts, since we are obliged to present and vote on balanced accounts for both expenditure and revenue. And that’s what we do. This is the golden rule for local authorities. So in recent months we have suffered, as in households, the increase in energy costs, inflation also on food products for children in canteens. And then the revaluation of the index point that we absorbed in our respective budgets. So we are very worried because I don’t know where we can make more savings. We are already very vigilant and we are tightening our belts on expenses that would be unnecessary.”
If these savings were ever confirmed, what could the municipalities do? “We are going to postpone investments, if we have diminishing resources, we are going to postpone projects that were perhaps in the pipeline for six months or a year. Which I do not hope for because it will have economic consequences for public works companies which are after all our local companies and which work largely on behalf of communities.”
