Closed roads, traffic jams, flooded cellars and gardens… The south of Yvelines suffered the full force of Storm Kirk on this evening of Wednesday October 9, 2024.
Météo France had warned that the episode arriving in the sky would be significant. The organization did not lie by placing the department on orange alert.
Already 15 days of rain… in just one day
Already, more than 40 millimeters of rain have fallen in certain areas of the department, which represents around 15 days of precipitation. 15 days that the soil cannot absorb in one day, waterlogged. And at least 80 mm are expected in the end.
The bad weather was variable intensity throughout the day, with very violent and more diffuse showers. The common feature was that the sky did not stop pouring water.
Roads closed
In a press release, the Yvelines prefecture announced that several roads are closed to traffic: in Émancé, Bullion, Sainte-Mesme, Bonnelles, Ablis, Chevreuse and Rambouillet.
“More road closures are expected. Furthermore, runoff phenomena are underway and certain watercourses are seeing their levels increase rapidly. »
It’s going to overflow
It is therefore to be feared flooding throughout the department but also overflows of sanitation networks.
The first of recommendations is not to enter a partially or totally submerged road, on foot or in a vehicle. The second is to limit travel. The third is not to go down into basements, especially underground car parks.
The closures keep coming
Around 7:45 p.m., the City of Magny-les-Hameaux informed of the closure of a portion of the Port-Royal des Champs road (RD195).
A school closed tomorrow
Shortly before, Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse had announced the closure of the road to Boulay-les-Trous, avenue des Molières between rue de Saint-Paul and rue Alexandre-Dumas. And above all Saint-Exupéry school. “The children will be welcomed tomorrow at Envol, with teachers, ATSEMs and activity leaders. Each family was contacted,” specifies the City. All this while specifying that the parking lot of the Trois Rivières sports complex was closed, being a flood expansion zone.
1 meter of water in places in Rambouillet
In Rambouillet, a crisis PC was opened with Rambouillet Territoires. “There were places with 1 meter of water, avenue Leclerc for example. Residents were asked to move their cars to the most problematic areas. We will remain attentive all night with patrols that will rotate,” insists the mayor, Véronique Matillon.
The elected official assures that she has a very attentive eye on the sector of the Groussay plain, which has often been flooded in the past. “We take stock at least every 30 minutes. »
