A boater lost his life in Hérault and another is in absolute emergency according to a still provisional assessment.
The prefect of Hérault is calling for caution this Wednesday, October 9, 2024 evening due to a “very strong swell” which is raging, particularly on the Mediterranean coast, due to the passage of storm Kirk.

According to an initial assessment, three boats which were at sea found themselves trapped and capsized in the Sète and Marseillan sectors.
Dangerous waves
“One boater died, a second in absolute emergency” was taken care of by the emergency services, still according to a provisional assessment.
“The sea is particularly rough, with the formation of dangerous waves of up to 2 m. The risk of drowning is very high,” warns the prefecture.
Ban on going to sea or going to beaches
The prefect of Hérault asks boaters not to take to the sea and the population not to swim or frequent the department’s beaches.
