Villepreux () is a town little affected by delinquency. However, the City has just launched a security plan and the fight against incivility. “It is not because we are the quietest municipality in the police district that we should not manage what exists,” explains the mayor of Villepreux, Jean-Baptiste Hamonic.

“Faulty or poorly positioned cameras”

Among the measures launched, the municipality will develop video surveillance. Today, the municipality has 38 cameras on its territory, deployed under the previous mandates of Stéphane Mirambeau (2008-2020).

“A certain number are faulty or poorly positioned. There was no maintenance done. Many cameras were installed to respond to complaints from residents. The Hauts-du-Moulin district is the only district of the city not covered (by video surveillance). »

Jean-Baptiste Hamonic, mayor (Modem) of Villepreux

A dozen new cameras

A dozen new, more efficient cameras (vnight vision, plate reading…) will be installed on masts, mainly at the entrances and exits of the city. The stated objective is “to increase the rates of clarification of investigations” by the police.

Amount of investment for the City: 200,000 to 250,000 euros, including 100,000 euros from 2025.

In this spirit, the workforce of the municipal policies grew from 4 to 6. The municipality also purchased a second vehicle for its police officers. “This made it possible to extend the time slots from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and sometimes until 10 p.m. in the summer,” notes the elected official.

Alcohol, wild mechanics… the fight against incivility

Before the summer, the mayor also issued two municipal decrees to fight against incivility of everyday life. A first decree thus prohibits the consumption of alcohol on public roads from 1is April to November 30, from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. near shops, public gardens, sports complexes, nurseries, etc. A second concerns the ban on illegal mechanics in public parking lots (gyms, schools, etc.). This involves curbing the resurgence of clandestine workshops “observed over the past year and a half” in the town. Since the implementation of this decree, “there have already been flagrant offenses and fines”, welcomes the elected official.

The City is also hunting down wild dumps. A year ago, the municipal council voted to create a fine of at least 800 euros against the perpetrators of these offenses.

Avoid excesses at weddings

Finally, the municipality wants fight against overflows during weddings.

“The vast majority of marriages go well. However, we have complicated weddings with guests who do not respect speed limits in the streets or overly festive weddings which prevent subsequent weddings from taking place. »

Jean-Baptiste Hamonic, mayor (Modem) of Villepreux

Like what is done in or Montigny-le-Bretonneux, the City has therefore adopted a marriage charter. Future spouses are now asked to file two deposit checks 1,200 euros and 400 euros at town hall. The first will be collected in the event of damage or excessive speed, the second in the event of delay of the bride and groom or guests. The mayor thus wants to “hit the wallet, as with illegal dumping”.
