The passage of the Kirk depression this Wednesday over the -Atlantique and Vendée is starting to be felt. Several roads are flooded in the Pays de Retz, the Pays d’Ancenis and on the island of Noirmoutier. Train traffic is also interrupted from towards Pornic and Saint-Gilles--de-Vie, as well as between Saint-Nazaire and Le Croisic. The authorities recommend limiting your travel as much as possible.

Many areas flooded

  • Several houses evacuated in Saint-Viaud

The lower part of the village of Saint-Viaud, in the Pays de Retz, is flooded. Several houses were evacuated, as well as the building which houses the after-school and leisure center. The children were brought to safety. According to Mayor Roch Chéraud, “the situation is worse than in June 2018” . At the time, around fifteen houses had been seriously affected by the floods.

  • Ten centimeters of water at the local hospital and a closed daycare center in Noirmoutier

In Noirmoutier, many streets were flooded. The Vendée prefecture announces up to 50 centimeters of water. In Noirmoutier-en-l’Ile, the castle is closed as well as the municipal nursery. According to Fabien Gaborit, the president of the community of communes, the local hospital was also flooded. There was 10 centimeters of water. The catering room and the boiler room in particular were affected. But the evacuation of residents was not necessary.

  • Up to 74 mm of rain in Pornic

The rain no longer stops falling in Loire-Atlantique and Vendée. According to the Temps Breton account, which brings together meteorologists, “we find up to 74 mm in Pornic and more than 60 mm in Nantes“. And our two departments will continue to be copiously watered until the end of the day. The Loire-Atlantique firefighters carried out 220 interventions since the start of the bad weather, of which 160 were in progress as of 3 p.m.

The municipalities most affected, at this time, are La Plaine-sur-Mer, Pornic, Saint-Brevin, Saint-Michel-Chef-Chef, Saint-Port-en-Retz, La Bernerie, Saint-Nazaire and Nantes. But no major evacuation at this stage was not necessary.

Flooded roads and disrupted SNCF traffic

  • Around thirty roads flooded

Around thirty roads are currently cut in Loire-Atlantique due to flooding. Mainly in the Pays de Retz, the Pays d’Ancenis, the Nantes vineyard but also north of Saint-Nazaire, in the surroundings of Nantes and in the Nort-sur-Erdre sector. The Department of Loire-Atlantique indicates which roads are cut ici.

The blue road is partly cut off, near Pornic, because it is flooded and many cars are at a standstill.

TER indicates on the X network that heavy rainfall has flooded the tracks in Sainte-Pazanne. Traffic is interrupted on the lines towards Pornic and Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, as well as between Saint-Nazaire and Le Croisic. THE train delays There are also many trains at Nantes station.
