Thunderstorms in Paris and Île-de-France: yellow vigilance this Sunday, May 12

After very summery weather, the return of storms is expected on May 12, 2024. Météo France places 50 departments in France on yellow alert for storms, including Paris and the whole of Île-de-France. We take stock of the forecasts.

After several very beautiful and hot days all over France, the weather could turn stormy for the end of the Ascension weekend. Also, Meteo France places 50 departments of France in yellow alert for thunderstorms for this day of May 12, 2024.

The North and East of France are particularly affected by this alert. The Somme, the Oise, the Seine-Maritime, the Moselle, the Haut-Rhin, the Meuse, the Ardennes, but also the Côte d’Or, the Cher, the Loiret or even the Doubs, the Allier and the Puy -de-Dôme are thus placed in yellow vigilance for a risk of violent thunderstorms this Sunday.

As a depression approaches from the Atlantic, a new stormy deterioration affects the central regions up to the north of the country in the afternoon and evening. These storms are expected to be quite strong from time to time from Normandy north of Paris to Picardy and Champagne. These storms can occasionally be accompanied by a risk of hail and gusts of 80 km/h” warns La Chaîne Météo on its site.

What about Paris and the Île-de-France region ? The capital and all the Ile-de-France departments (Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Essonne, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne and Val-d’ Oise) are also placed by Météo France in yellow alert for thunderstorms this Sunday.

According to Meteo France, violent storms could hit Paris and the rest of Île-de-France this Sunday from 12 p.m. These Thundershowers could continue throughout the afternoon and evening until 11 p.m.

  • avoid touching electrical wires on the ground,
  • move away from posts, gates, trees and watercourses,
  • by car, avoid wooded areas.
