McGill calls for the dismantling of the pro-Palestinian encampment on its campus

Propalestine students who set up an encampment on the campus of McGill University received an injunction from the establishment to force them to leave.

“The University went to court to obtain an order that would force the people occupying the encampment to dismantle it and to give up camping or occupying the University’s downtown campus,” the University said in a statement. release from McGill University.

“This order would also authorize the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) to carry out an intervention,” we can read in the email sent to the media.

For two weeks, around a hundred students and Propalestine demonstrators have set up several dozen tents on university grounds at the corner of Sherbrooke and McGill streets. They demand that the establishment stop financing companies with a link to Israel.

Following the university’s announcement, students and demonstrators regret to see that there is no “good faith” negotiation.

“We condemn the shameful actions of McGill University which demonstrate that it will mobilize police violence against its own students and community to prioritize profit and donor funding,” they emphasize.

They also recall that the movement is made up of students, professors and staff members who stand in solidarity with the population of Gaza.

Last week, a request for an injunction filed by two students was rejected by the Superior Court of Quebec.
