The issue surrounding a possible move by Saint-Germain continues to agitate Parisian political life. Questioned this Tuesday, Paris advisor Jean-François Martins denounced the hypocrisy and opportunism of Valérie Pécresse on the issue of the Parc des Princes.

Things seemed a little calmer in recent weeks… Perhaps a little too much for Paris town hall and PSG. With the desire of the City of Paris to contest the region’s amendment providing for a 50-hectare reserve intended to accommodate the club’s possible new stadium in Île-de-, hostilities have resumed with a vengeance. PSG denounced “a sudden panic” from the municipality which responded by targeting Valérie Pécresse.

“It’s the same subject as on the Eiffel Tower (around the question of the Olympic rings). I find it sad that the Parisian and Ile-de-France right is waving symbols, markers of our Parisian identity, to make them political objects,” denounced Paris councilor Jean-François Martins.

A simple political maneuver?

Elected from the left and former deputy for sports at Paris town hall, Jean-François Martins took aim at the president of the region and the Parisian right who, according to him, are using the question of the Parc des Princes to harm Anne Hidalgo.

“I think that the love of Parisians for the Eiffel Tower deserves better than the lying declarations of Rachida Dati who does not have the means,” continued Jean-François Martins. “And better than the instrumentalization of Valérie Pécresse who was never interested in PSG until the day she realized that she could piss off Anne Hidalgo with that.”

And the president of the Eiffel Tower operating company concluded: “So, PSG supporter that I am, I don’t want Valérie Pécresse to come and make popol (political politics) on my back.”
