Gard: evolution of bad weather

Météo- services are keeping the department on orange “Rain-Flood” vigilance until 10 a.m. today, as well as on yellow “Thunderstorms” vigilance until 2 p.m. A yellow “Rain-Flood” vigilance is also planned for Tuesday, October 8 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Since yesterday and until this morning, significant amounts of rain have been observed, with 192 mm recorded at Grand Combe and between 160 and 170 mm at Saint-Jean-du-Gard. Rainfall intensities reached 70 to 100 mm per hour in these areas. Fortunately, the emergency services have not had to intervene so far.

The rainy episode, which began yesterday evening, is expected to continue until late morning. Around 60 mm of rain are still expected in the Cévennes, and 40 mm in Piedmont and the plains during this period. Currently, rain intensities are between 10 and 20 mm/h.

Yellow alert remains in force for rivers, particularly for Les Gardons and La Cèze, which have not yet reached their maximum level. Several submersible bridges are already closed, and the situation continues to evolve. Residents are strongly advised not to use these routes. In addition, a landslide was noted on the D983, adding to the risks on the road network.

The inhabitants of Gard are called upon to exercise the greatest vigilance. Before hitting the road, it is advisable to check the traffic conditions on the site https://www.inforoute30.fr/

Strong winds are currently blowing in the south of the department, reaching speeds of 60 km/h and generating dangerous waves of 2 to 2.20 meters. These waves are expected to strengthen tomorrow, reaching up to 3 meters, with an increased risk of submersion.

Instructions to the population

– Limit your travel.
– Never enter a submerged or partially submerged traffic lane.
– Avoid submersible bridges or ford crossings if they are closed or beginning to be submerged.
