The Gard commune honored two of its fighters, who died in 1944, this Wednesday, May 8, and obtained the State Liberation Mission label.

When at the beginning of January 2024, we received the call for applications from the Gard prefecture to participate in the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation, it was obvious to me that our municipality had to respond to this call », explains Alexandre Vigne, mayor of Lanuéjols, in the preamble to the exhibition retracing the journey of his two fighters who died in 1944. The fruit of research, carried out by the historian Marie-Françoise Paul-Gesbert, this exhibition looks back at the history by Georges Valezi and Émile Fabre.

According to the wishes of the mayor, this work was designed in a spirit of intergenerational sharing with the children of the municipal school. The students translated their impressions into the form of drawings also on display. Free, this exhibition, visible all summer, was unveiled at the end of the Commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation.

During this ceremony, organized in coordination with the commune of Saint-Sauveur Camprieu, the lyrical artist Nathalie Nicaud “Miss Liberty” performed several songs.

Among them, “L’Affiche rouge”, accompanied by the choir of Saint-Sauveur Camprieu. Also present, a vintage vehicle presented by the “Authentic Old Cevenn’s” association. The municipalities of the former canton of Trêves (Causse Bégon, Dourbies, Revens and Trêves) also took part in this ceremony.
