The renovation of the Stade Jules François Bocandé in Ziguinchor has become a priority for figures in Senegalese football, notably Aliou Cissé. The latter highlighted the need to rehabilitate this stadium, thus honoring the memory of Jules François Bocandé, national icon of the 1990s. It was during an event at the Alliance Française in Ziguinchor this Tuesday.
The day saw the participation of Bocandé’s family, local actors and sportsmen. The objective emphasized by Cissé was to perpetuate the memory of Senegalese sporting legends to inspire future generations. Mr. Cissé recalled how Bocandé had left his mark, going so far as to sacrifice a club meeting in France to represent Senegal.
The round table titled ‘The Legacy of Essamaay’ brought together personalities like Nouha Cissé and Abdoulatif Diop, who discussed Bocandé’s profound impact on football and peace in Casamance. An exhibition and the documentary ‘Essamaay, Bocandé la Panthere’ were also presented, enriching the tribute.
