On the road to vacation: a new installation in Saguenay for fans of “vanlife”

The landscapes of the Saguenay will continue to attract fans of “vanlife” during the summer period, says a man who has been traveling the roads of Quebec for nearly 30 years.

“It’s sure to be extremely popular,” notes Yves Ouellet. We have what we need. We have lots of beautiful rivers including all around the Baie des Ha! Ha!”

Moreover, a new site located facing the fjord has been set up to accommodate vans in the La Baie sector, free of charge.

“Van owners will have to respect the assigned time, that is to say no more than 24 hours,” explains the president of the La Baie district, Raynald Simard. It will be possible to create 12 to 24 parking lots there.”

“It’s a great joint project,” adds a municipal councilor from the district, Jean Tremblay.

Although tourists already travel through this region of Quebec, the project team is sure that this initiative will bring more visitors.

“The gateway is the La Baie borough,” says a second municipal councilor, Martin Harvey. People love coming to walk on the bike path.”

Recreational vehicle dealers have also noted that enthusiasm has continued since the pandemic.

“Many people now prefer to travel with their belongings,” says a representative of Roulettes MLR, Dominic Savard. They want to travel short and be able to park almost anywhere.”

For enthusiasts, this hobby is enviable for everyone.

“When we sit on the banks of the river, we watch the whales, we prepare good food, we open a bottle of wine,” says Mr. Ouellet in his van, “I don’t know what more it would take to be as happy as possible.”
