The Premier Acte theater announces the ten plays that will make up its program for the 2024-2025 season built around the theme of resistance. Solidarity and inclusive pricing will also be introduced with the aim of allowing as many people as possible to attend a performance.

Both present in the issues addressed within the pieces of the program, the idea of ​​resistance is generally part of theatrical creation according to Marc Gourdeau, general and artistic director of Premier Acte.

“Making creative theater in Quebec, in these times, is obviously, beyond the themes addressed, a real act of resistance. Resistance in the face of ease, resistance in the face of the steamroller of a leveling global cultural industry, resistance in the face of right-thinking, resistance in the face of austerity and indifference,” he wrote in a press release.

Brief overview of the parts

Fall 2024

An aftertaste of compost, presented from October 8 to 19, features the character of Éléonore who finds her older brother in a community garden after several years of absence. Anne-Virginie Bérubé’s text addresses abandonment, depression and eating disorders in a narrative thread that is both comical and touching.

In Disgrace, presented from October 29 to November 2, author Nadia Girard Eddahia paints the portrait of a powerful and charismatic man awaiting trial for sexual assault following several complaints filed by women. The protagonist, cut off from the outside world, must reside with his mother throughout the legal proceedings.

Forbidden to loitera humorous monologue written by Antoine Paré-Poirier and directed by Melissa Bouchard, introduces the character of Étienne, a young, rather ordinary teenager who decides to become the dealer of pot at his high school. The play takes a look at the world of drug sales through the lens of a young and naive character.

The Soldier’s Story, directed by Jocelyn Pelletier based on a text by Ramuz and music by Stravinsky, will be presented from December 4 to 7. The play depicts a dystopian society introduced and explored by video games.

In December the 14th edition of the Tales to pass the time. Around ten artists will present Christmas tales under the vaults of the Maison Chevalier.

Winter 2025

Closed doors, an autofiction documentary by author Aude Seppey, recounts her journey in politics and addresses issues of female representation. The artist explores the political space where “power is well guarded”. It will be possible to attend the play from February 25 to March 8.

The show Clear cut, presented by the Collectif Verdun, tackles the issue of climate emergency head-on by borrowing from the codes of Greek tragedy. In a text and direction by Charlie Cameron-Verge, we meet the characters of Marie and Antoine. The two protagonists are preparing to leave Earth where it is no longer possible to live.

Hommeries productions! invite the public to participate in elections in Strategic voting from April 15 to 26. In a comic approach, the piece presents “the Party of Common Sense, the Enverdeurs and the Patriotic Lobbyist Party [qui] are competing for your favor in a smear campaign of disproportionate proportions.”

The last piece of the season, entitled That the good days are short, follows the character of Léa, a literature student who goes to Isle aux Coudres to write. The play by author Marie-Ève ​​Lussier-Gariépy deals with questions of belonging, culture and heritage. Performances will take place from May 6 to 17.

For greater accessibility

Spectators will now be able to choose between four different prices when purchasing tickets for a play. A regular rate of $32, a reduced rate of $25, an accessible rate of $15 and a solidarity rate of $40.

It is up to each person to choose the amount to pay according to their situation, their theater attendance habits and their willingness to contribute.
