SENEGAL-RELIGION / Mbacké: the 121st edition of the Darou Salam magal scheduled for the end of May (governor) – Senegalese press agency

Diourbel, May 7 (APS) – The 121st edition of Magal de Darou salam (Mbacké-center), a religious event commemorating the reunion between Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba Mbacké, THE founder of Mouridism (1853-1927) and his half-brother Mame Sheikh Anta Mbacké, will be celebrated on May 27 or 28, said Tuesday the governor of the Diourbel region, Ibrahima Fall.

After his return from exile in Gabon in 1902, Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba Mbacké stayed in Darou Salam, with his half-brother Mame Cheikh Anta Mbacké, who gave him a warm welcome and a very grand reception.

Speaking on the sidelines of the regional development committee (CRD) dedicated to this religious event, Mr. Fall assured that the expression of needs of the organizing committee will be taken care of by the decentralized technical services of the State for the good organization of this important religious event for the Mouride community.

“Six advanced medical posts and medical ambulances will be mobilized by the Regional Health Directorate to ensure good health coverage,” he announced. “The hygiene service will, for its part, disinfect around a hundred houses in Darou Salam,” he added.

As for the National Integrated Waste Management Company (SONAGED), it will, in concert with the organizing committee, organize a clean-up day on May 17, he further indicated, inviting followers to mobilize to support the agents who will be deployed in the field.

Concerning the electricity aspect, he reported that the organizing committee requested temporary connections in some houses of religious dignitaries in Darou Salam and the elimination of load shedding in the city, particularly on the day of the magal.

He also noted that a security system will be put in place by the gendarmerie, police, firefighters and customs to monitor the movement of people and goods.

Considered to be the first city founded by Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba in the 1880s, Darou Salam today houses the mausoleum of Mame Cheikh Anta Mbacké (1865-1941) known as ”Borom Gawane”, who was a faithful companion of the founder of Mouridism.
