A violent collision occurred on Monday May 6, 2024 in Pouydesseaux (Landes), near Mont-de-Marsan, between a heavy goods vehicle and a camper van. The two occupants of the latter did not survive the impact, which occurred around 2:30 p.m. on the D933, reports France Bleu Gascogne . The two victims were from Savignac-de-Duras (Lot-et-Garonne), our colleagues from South West .

A major rescue system was deployed on site, with the intervention of a team from Smur and firefighters from the Mont-de-Marsan, Saint-Justin and Roquefort barracks. They first discovered the lifeless body of the 66-year-old driver of the camper van.

A long extrication process

But it took the emergency services almost three hours to manage to extricate the passenger, indicates France Blue. They could only note the death of this 62-year-old woman. The driver of the truck, aged 46, was only slightly injured.

During the firefighter intervention, a diversion was put in place. The gendarmes from the Mont-de-Marsan company went to the site to make the first observations. An investigation will be carried out to understand how the two vehicles could have collided on the straight. According to initial investigations, the camper van veered into the opposite lane, for a reason still unknown. He then allegedly hit the truck carrying several cars head-on.
