In Auradou, the May 8 ceremony took place on Sunday 5. This is quite unprecedented, but there is a reason for this delay. For decades, on May 8, a huge garage sale has been held which extends over hundreds and hundreds of linear meters of exhibitors, some of whom come from very far away.
Over the years, the Auradou garage sale has become a “must see”, both for exhibitors and bargain hunters. However, it is spread out near the town center. The commemoration of the end of the Second World War had therefore disappeared for many years. But the mayor, Séverine Rézé, and her advisors, wanted to put it back… without disrupting the town’s calendar. The decision was therefore made to reintroduce the May 8 ceremony… on the Sunday closest to the official date.
Schoolchildren and veterans united
For the resumption, the councilor wanted to involve the CM1 and CM2 students of the intercommunal educational group (RPI) Auradou-Hautefage, who read the message from the Federal Union of Veterans. Also invited – and present – were Souvenir Français and representatives of Fname-Opex.
Representatives of Fname-Opex wished to lay a wreath.
Lutgarde Detry
This federation brings together French soldiers who have participated in external operations in different countries in conflict (Lebanon, Zaire, Chad, Cambodia, Somalia, Rwanda, etc.). Its aim is to come to the aid of all its companions and to facilitate their reintegration by fighting, among other things, against the forgetting of their sacrifice, and by providing them with social assistance.
This reintroduction of May 8 into the municipal calendar, the presence of the Fname-Opex and the intervention of the RPI students delighted all the Auratorians present.
