You have original documents concerning the Second World War in Maine-et-Loire? THE Departmental archives of Maine-et-Loire are looking for private documents on the Second World War as part of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation.

Objective: to shed more light on the daily life of Angevins and Angevines during WWII.

Letters, photos, newspapers…

This collection covers all themes linked to the Second World War: daily life, the “phoney war”, the Battle of France, the Occupation, rationing, the place of women, school, the destruction linked to the bombings , prisoners of war, requirements of the Compulsory Labor Service (STO), the Resistance, the Liberation, the end of the war.

Only archives relating to Maine-et-Loire will be collected.

Different types of documents are likely to enrich the sources of the period between 1939 and 1945:

  • Letters
  • Photographs, maps, drawings
  • Diaries, war stories
  • Personal papers of prisoners, resistance fighters or deportees
  • Movies.

A collection launched on June 3

Collection will begin on Monday June 3, 2024. Of June 3 to 7, you can come and hand over your original documents to the Departmental Archives, without prior appointment. After this period, it will be necessary to contact the Archives.

The documents collected will join the funds of Departmental archives of Maine-et-Loire to be made available to all and promoted within the framework of cultural and educational activities on site and online.
