First successful home match for the new Coulanges-sur-Yonne rugby club

Both teams played on the common ground, which had not been trodden on by cleats for around 30 years. All this, in front of 300 spectators!

Small event for Icaunais sport: the Rugby club of Coulanges-sur-Yonne (RCCY), launched a few months ago, welcomed on Saturday May 25, for its first friendly match, the Petits Pères, a Parisian club.

The crampons return to the pitch

Both teams played on the common ground, which had not been trodden on by cleats for around 30 years. For the occasion, the mayor, Marcel Chevillon, wore his supporter’s jersey and gave his voice to support the team which ended up losing 24 to 21. Less than seven months after its affiliation, they were therefore ready to fight. Everyone, the sponsors for the outfits, the committee and the Rugby League, which had just approved the pitch and the posts, and the municipality, for the restoration of the locker rooms, worked hard to meet these deadlines, which were all in all very short. .

Joy and pride

“What joy and pride to see the RCCY playing on the local ground less than seven months after its affiliation with the League! Congratulations to Valérie Loze, to Franck Born (the two co-presidents of the club, editor’s note), to the office for all their efforts and to all the players who responded in a very short time! I do not forget the sponsors, the leaders of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Rugby League, the municipal agents who renovated the locker rooms in a very short time and all the volunteers! whether they come from Coulanges or neighboring towns”, emphasized, with enthusiasm, the mayor, Marcel Chevillon.

A rugby club has just been created in Coulanges-sur-Yonne

A few days earlier, the posts of the rugby field had been installed after the approval of the premises granted by the Burgundy-Franche-Comté Rugby League, in the presence of its president, Jean-François Contant, and Jean-Marc Lacour. Jean-Marc Lacour, vice-president of the departmental committee, was back on Saturday May 25 to show his support. The club is sponsored for its jersey by a materials company from Clamecy.

The volunteers were able to take care of the well-being of the players, but also of the three hundred people who attended this match. A great popular success.

Grandparents, parents and children were there for the big rugby festival, in Coulanges-sur-Yonne, with their memories of former players or to create new ones. A new page in the long history of local sport is being written!
