The Haute-Savoie department continues to fight against the proliferation of the Asian hornet and its impact on biodiversity. The trapping campaign is underway. It continues until the end of May and will resume in the fall.
Already 532 captures in Haute-Savoie
The trapping campaign, which is carried out in two stages, is still ongoing until the end of May despite unfavorable weather (to trap the founders in the foraging areas so as to avoid the creation of nests). It will then resume in the fall (to trap workers in areas of high concentration of the insect or near apiaries to protect the latter from attacks). With the forecasted mild spell, Asian hornet activity will intensify and the rate of captures should increase. So far, 531 founders have already been captured in 90 communes of Haute-Savoie.

It is in particular thanks to the numerous traps which have already been financed by the department that the operation is carried out. Last year, the Departmental Council released an envelope of 300,000 euros for the purchase of 5,000 mechanical and selective traps.
