700 signs “Here we will pay for the LGV for 40 years!” were planted next to those indicating the entrances and exits to towns in several communes of Lot-et-Garonne. An initiative of the anti-LGV collective “LGV non-merci”, of which “Stop LGV 47” is a member.

Since Saturday May 4, signs “Here we will pay for the LGV for 40 years!” have been installed at the entrances and exits of many municipalities in Lot-et-Garonne, but also in Gironde. This is particularly the case in Pujols, Villeneuve-sur-Lot, Sainte-Livrade-sur-Lot and Casseneuil.

This action against the installation of the future LGV line between Toulouse and Bordeaux was initiated by the anti-LGV collectives of “LGV non-merci”, of which “Stop LGV 47” is a member. “From the morning of May 4, residents of municipalities subject to the Special Equipment Tax (TSE) will be able to see this threat at the entrance to their town: “Here we will pay the LGV for 40 years!” This is the result of the action carried out by the collective members of “LGV Non merci” who oppose the Grand South-West Railway Project (GPSO) planning the construction of high-speed lines between Bordeaux and Toulouse, and Bordeaux and Dax”, explains “LGV non-merci” in a press release sent on Saturday May 4.

“This project decided by the State is partly financed – 29.5 million euros each year – by the inhabitants of the rural areas which would be crossed by the LGV, even though they are little concerned by the gain in time: 2,340 municipalities are affected by this tax in Occitanie and New Aquitaine”, adds the collective. A meeting, called “La Sarabande”, is scheduled for May 25 and 26 from Saint-Michel-de-Castelnau to Vianne. It will be “two days of festive, family and citizen mobilizations”.
