The Minister of Social Services of Quebec, Lionel Carmant, came to the Granby hospital for the occasion, Friday morning.

Of the 19 actions determined in the homelessness action plan, the respite stop stood out from the rest.

Although its location is not yet known, we already know that the place, which will be overseen by Partage Notre-Dame, will open its doors before the end of the year.

Two workers will be hired to support these 20 vulnerable people.

A recurring envelope of $688,000 will be devoted to this initiative.

Initially announced “in the coming weeks”, the measure was many months in the making.

A warm stop for the Entr’elles women’s center

Minister Carmant also announced the establishment of a warm-up center at the Entr’elles women’s center.

Compared to the Partage Notre-Dame respite stop, this heat stop is now operational and is accessible from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

It will benefit the clientele of the Entr’elles accommodation center, largely made up of women experiencing homelessness and high vulnerability.

An investment of $80,000 is planned each year to maintain the heat stop.

Filling a “service gap”

This respite stop is part of a “continuum of services,” indicates the City.

The respite stop will fill a “service gap” that currently exists between the street, on the one hand, and the accommodation services offered by the organizations Le Passant and l’Auberge sous mon roof, on the other hand.

More details to come.
