Built around 1860 and listed as part of the cultural heritage of Quebec, the “yellow house” which had not been inhabited for several years was heavily damaged by an arson on Sunday evening.
Around thirty firefighters were dispatched to the scene. It took nearly three hours to bring the flames under control, police authorities said.
The fire station transferred the investigation to the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) after noting that a criminal act was at the origin of the blaze.

The house was no longer inhabited, there was no electricity, several details lead to the thesis of human action
added SPVQ spokesperson David Poitras in a telephone interview.
In October 2023, the house, with boarded-up doors and windows, was threatened with demolition. It had been the target of vandals on several occasions.
