The Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 convertible is confirmed for Canada

The coupe and CLE convertible are part of the new products from the German manufacturer this year. The duo has the difficult task of replacing 4 models which were eliminated from the catalog Mercedes-Benzi.e. the C-Class and E-Class coupes. The manufacturer believes that this duo, whose format is more similar to that of the E-Class, will be better suited to competing in segments experiencing a sharp loss of speed.

A poorly kept secret

It was an open secret that the convertible would also inherit its supercharged AMG version. While the coupe was introduced in an AMG version this year, the CLE convertible, which we recently tested, was only offered in the base version, the CLE 300 convertible. It only took a few weeks before Mercedes-Benz Canada confirmed the arrival of the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 convertible 2025it will become the second AMG model to allow you to drive with your hair blowing in the wind alongside the SL.

Just like the coupe, the AMG convertible is distinguished by its widened fenders at the front and rear, which enhance its presence. Engineers widened the front track by 58.4 millimeters and 76 millimeters at the rear compared to the base version of the CLE.

A much more complex engine

Under the hood, the CLE 53 AMG convertible drops the 4-cylinder turbo from the base version. It received a much more complex engine, codenamed M256M. It is a supercharged 3.0-liter inline-6 that develops 443 horsepower and produces 413 pound-feet of torque. Its turbocharger increases performance at high rpm, but low-rpm torque is provided by an electric compressor that adds 5.8 psi to the air pressure.

Added to this is a mild hybridization including an integrated starter-generator (ISG) paired with a 48-volt on-board electrical system. It acts as a starter, allows energy recovery and, as a bonus, provides an additional power of 23 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque when called upon.

The interior also benefits from an AMG treatment with unique trim and sports seats. Just like in the coupe, there is a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation and an 11.9-inch central multimedia screen oriented towards the driver in portrait format. The tilt of the central screen can be adjusted via electrical control from 15 to 40 degrees to avoid reflections caused by sunlight when the soft roof is open.

The Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 convertible will be marketed in the country as a 2025 model. Prices will be revealed later by Mercedes-Benz Canada.
