Saint-Louis, May 6 (APS) – Senegalese poet Fara Ndiaye won first place in the Léopold Sédar Senghor international poetry prize in Milan, Italy, in the “Section E: Environment and Migration” category, for his poem “Trees are love poems,” the APS learned from the jury.

Fara Ndiaye received this award from the Senegalese ambassador in Milan. According to a note of appreciation from the jury of which the APS obtained a copy, “the poet showed the spiritual, symbolic and emotional dimension of the tree”. “This way of thinking (…) and the quality of the author’s writing convinced the members of the jury,” adds the text.

President of the collective “Let’s Talk Poetry” which brings together, among others, young poets and slammers from Senegal, nA native of the city of Saint-Louis, Fara Ndiaye is also the director of the “Al Faruq” editions, founded in 2022 and which is mainly dedicated to the publication of poetic collections.

The Léopold Sédar Senghor International Poetry Prize, organized each year in Italy, promotes the culture of peace, solidarity and love between peoples through poetry. Its objective, says the same note, is also to make known the vision and disseminate the works of the great poet Léopold Sédar Senghor.

This award is open to all women and men in the world over the age of eighteen (+18) and who write in Italian or French. It is also open to the French-speaking world: Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, America and is divided into five (5) sections. Participation is by submitting an application.
