Question: what works when it comes to cybersecurity in Switzerland? Answer: almost nothing. Monday morning, the authorities drew an alarming assessment of the situation. Barely more than a hundred days after its creation, the Federal Office for Cybersecurity (OFCS) exposed all of Switzerland’s shortcomings in the face of malicious hackers, shortcomings that particularly affect the world of economics. SMEs are therefore far too easy targets for cybercriminals who harass them.

First, the numbers. During the second half of 2023, reports of cyber incidents to the OFCS almost doubled, reaching 33,331 cases, compared to 16,951 reports for the same period in 2022. This increase is primarily due to the explosion in offer scams. fraudulent employment contracts, which we all received via messages on WhatsApp or by SMS last fall in particular. Added to this phenomenon is that of so-called calls from the police, often in English. Many calls of this type are still being reported today. In both cases, they are scams aimed at defrauding victims.
