Be careful until late evening due to thunderstorms circulating from west to east of the country. The Weather Channel informs you about developments in the weather situation. These storms are less widespread and less violent than those of Wednesday, but they require special attention.

For two weeks, unstable weather has affected the entire country, with a succession of rain-storm waves. It’s happening again now. A depression has developed in the Celtic Sea and is approaching Brittany this Sunday evening. It brings up very soft and unstable air which confronts fresh air coming from the English Channel. This air mass conflict causes heavy rain and thunderstorms from the southwest to the east of the country until Monday.

This Sunday

At 9:30 p.m., storms sweep across the whole of Midi-Pyrénées. If electrical activity declines except in Ariège, the rains increase between Haute-Garonne and the Lot. This is also the case between Auvergne and Burgundy: electrical activity is also significantly reduced there, but the rains remain abundant. These marked rains are progressing towards Franche-Comté and Rhône-Alpes this night.

At 8:50 p.m., the area of strong thunderstorms which was located in the early evening over the Hautes-Pyrénées takes a due east direction. Haute-Garonne and the Toulouse region are in the crosshairs with the approach of storms which can be accompanied by hail as they pass.

At 8:20 p.m., storms begin to leave Aquitaine. They concern the west of Occitanie, the Massif Central and Burgundy. The Toulouse region is affected. The cumulative rainfall recorded over the last 3 hours (between 5 and 8 p.m.) reached nearly 50 mm in Avree in Nièvre and 34 mm in Aurillac in Cantal, corresponding to 2 weeks of precipitation in the month of May.

At 20 o ‘clock, Gers and Cantal are particularly affected by storms which cross these departments from west to east. They are accompanied by hail around Auch. Other storms, very rainy, affect the west of the Massif Central (north of Aveyron, Puy-de-Dôme, Allier) as far as Burgundy.

At 7:30 p.m., several stormy outbreaks are reported on an axis stretching from the south of Aquitaine and the Hautes-Pyrénées to the Dordogne, Auvergne, Burgundy and Lorraine. Be careful if you are in the areas of Tarbes, Auch, Aurillac, Vichy. It is in Burgundy that storms are most active with high rainfall intensities.

At 18 o’clock, storms continue to break out between the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, the west of the Massif Central, Limousin, Poitou, the north of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Bourogne to the north of Lorraine. Unlike the storms on Wednesday evening, the storms this Sunday are less well organized, and therefore less destructive. But, they are very rainy and occasionally bring hail.

These rainy storms are reaching all eastern regions this night where they will bring significant precipitation accumulations of between 20 and 40 mm on average until Monday afternoon, occasionally 80 mm in the Pre-Alps as well as in Cantal.

At 5:30 p.m., the storm axis is still in place from eastern Aquitaine to Limousin, losing strength. Other, more scattered storms broke out in central Auvergne, the Centre-Val de Loire region, Morvan and northern Lorraine.

At 17 o’clock, thunderstorm activity strengthens along the disturbance, demarcating the cool Atlantic air and the warm air coming up from Spain. This air mass conflict is conducive to the triggering of storms between Aquitaine, Limousin, the north of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes going up towards Burgundy and Lorraine.

At 4:30 p.m., a gust has just reached 91 km/h under the storm which has just passed over Bergerac where the temperature dropped from 24 to 14°C in a few minutes. The east of the Dordogne department is experiencing a hailstorm and temporarily intense rain. The situation is also under surveillance in Burgundy where storm cells are forming.

At 4:15 p.m., Particularly electric storms stretch from the center of the Landes to the Dordogne. The Bergerac sector was swept by strong storms. Hail was reported in the area around Périgueux.

At 3:30 p.m., the first storms of the new degradation are reported between central Aquitaine and Limousin. It is in Dordogne that they are most active. Other storms, more scattered, are reported between Auvergne, northern Rhône-Alpes and Côte-d’Or.
