SENEGAL--CULTURE / Saint-Louis: French Volunteer Day celebrated at the French Institute – Senegalese Press Agency

Saint-Louis, Oct 3 (APS) – The French Institute of Saint-Louis hosted, this Thursday, activities including a round table and a slam competition, as part of the celebration of French Volunteer Day (JVF 2024).

This day is initiated by volunteers, a mobilization platform for local and international solidarity actors.

”We are here as part of the organization of the 13th edition of French volunteering day in Senegal. The France Volunteers platform, set up by the State, communities and certain associations in France, was launched in October 2019,” declared Moussa Bah, representative of France Volontaires in Senegal at the APS on the sidelines of a ceremony organized in the Institute’s cinema room.

Since then, he continued, “we have introduced each year the idea of ​​promoting and making volunteering and the actions of volunteers much more visible”.

Coming to chair the ceremony, the prefect of the department of Saint-Louis, Abou Sow, recalled the importance that the city of Saint-Louis plays in consolidating the strong ties that unite Senegal and France.

”The city of Saint-Louis is the symbol of the links that exist between Senegal and France. This initiative aims to strengthen ties between the two countries,” he said.

Also as part of the day’s activities, awards were given to the various winners of the slam competition.

The deputy director of the French Institute of Saint-Louis, Isabelle Boiro-Gruet, among other personalities took part in this ceremony.

The Le Château Cultural Center will host the festive closing evening, according to the organizers.
