WORDS OF RECONQUEST

WORDS OF RECONQUEST
WORDS OF RECONQUEST

This is the postscript rich in reflections of a flagship series which has punctuated the debates in recent months in Senegal. “Where is Senegal going?”, hosted in 10 episodes by History student-researcher at Ucad Florian Bobin, will have given the floor to 25 diverse people – researchers, artists, activists, journalists – to put words on the trajectory of a country in full democratic reconquest.

In this last exchange, which resembles a review, Abdou Aziz Ndao, student of African literature and member of the Popular and Pan-African Anti-Imperialist Revolutionary Front (FRAPP), lucidly analyzes the meaning of this initiative sparked by the dynamic left-wing organization.

“It was extremely important for an organization like FRAPP to hold these discussions, in order to put the crucial problems of national sovereignty back on the table,” underlines the young activist. At a time when Senegal is emerging from years of authoritarian drift, these exchanges will make it possible to “advance the democratic process” through the virtue of public debate.

At the heart of the discussions: hot topics such as land, currency, foreign military bases and popular education. Major subjects which “continue to disturb the sleep” of African people in search of real sovereignty. Beyond the findings, a strong message is written to the new authorities: draw inspiration from the legacy of past struggles to make the necessary changes.

Some episodes of the series are available below:
