It’s well known that dogs are man’s best friends. And it is not Ophélie Morac who will say the opposite. The young woman, passionate about these four-legged animals, began manufacturing wooden bowl holders a year ago. “It was a coincidence because basically, I’m not a big DIY enthusiast. But I learned the fundamentals alongside my father. And it was by making wooden headboards and my own bowl holder for my dogs that the click came”explains Ophélie Morac, creator of the company Patt’en bois.

She makes her objects from soft wood: mainly pine or fir. The first step is to sand and strip the board. Ophélie Morac then uses walnut husk to dye the piece.

An interest in crafts

“The engravings and names of my customers’ animals, which appear in white, are obtained by digging the wood. And since pine is a white wood, the color comes naturally”, explains the craftswoman. His creations are, for the moment, unique because everything is made to measure and by hand according to the customer’s request.

“I could equip myself with numerically controlled machines to go faster but I don’t want to. I have the satisfaction of offering a handcrafted product made on the basis of a drawing”, she believes. It takes Ophélie Morac around thirty hours to complete a creation. The engraving itself takes almost 15 hours. The product is then finished with varnish, the same as that for kitchen worktops.
