Canada’s Women’s Sevens Team faced New Zealand in their final pool play match. New Zealand held a 12-0 lead at half-time, with Michaela Blyde striking twice in the second half. The Black Ferns Sevens eventually took at 31-0 lead, with Piper Logan sprinting off a quick tap to get Canada on the board in the 13th minute, her try converted by Chloe Daniels.

Finishing pool play third in Pool A, Canada’s four points helped them progress to the quarter-finals where they met . A close first half saw France leading 7-0 at half-time. The French lead was extended to 12-0 in the ninth minute, with France then taking advantage of back-to-back yellow cards to Canada in the final minutes and scoring twice more to win 24-0.

Canada’s Men’s Sevens Team put the series leading Argentinians in their final pool play match, with Argentina taking a 38-0 win.

The team then put Fiji in the ninth place semi-finals. Ponepati Loganimasi helped Fiji to a 31-7 win with a three-try performance. Fiji led 12-0 at half-time, doubling the score in the second half. In the 14th minute, Ethan Turner offloaded the ball to Noah Flesch, who in turn passed it off to Elias Hancock for a Canadian try, converted by Thomas Isherwood, but a last minute score from Loganimasi further sealed the win for Fiji.

Canada’s Men’s Sevens Team will meet Samoa in the 11th place play-off at 8:52pm PT/11:52pm ET on May 4. The tournament will wrap up for Canada with Canada’s Women’s Sevens Team playing Great Britain in the 7th place play-off at 11:44pm PT (May 4)/2:44am ET (May 5).
