Did you know? Margaret Thatcher had a little mishap at La Défense in the 1980s

La Défense, the business district of , is home to many businesses, schools, a large shopping center… And public figures to whom mishaps happen in the heart of the district… This is the case for Margaret Thatcher, British Prime Minister from 1979 to 1990, to whom a strange adventure happened in 1989. We tell you everything!

Defenseas everyone knows (well at least Parisians and Ile-de- residents), it is the business district of the capital. An aggregate of municipalities (11 in total) bringing together numerous businesses, head offices, a ministry (that of the Ecological Transition), a shopping center, leisure activities and a whole bunch of other things, making this district rather lively.

A neighborhood which has also seen several public figures pass through there… This is the case, for example, of Keanu Reeves which filmed in Paris, but especially in Defensepour John Wick. But the person who interests us here is not an actor or an artist. It is none other than Margaret Thatcherformer British Prime Minister between 1979 and 1990.

So what happened to Margaret Thatcher in 1989 at Defense ? The whole thing is rather funny and should put a smile on your face, at least. During the G7which was held from July 14 to 16, the British head of state was invited to meet her counterparts. And while going to the toilet, she gets stuck, due to a door handle that had given way, forcing her bodyguards to break down the door. In any case, this is what an official present at the time explains.

A rather unusual anecdote which will at least have the merit of allowing you to shine at a future dinner and, who knows, to amuse your hosts. So if you go to the toilet Defensebe careful when you close the door…
