Seven injured in collision: several charges against alleged driver

A 30-year-old man appeared Friday to face several charges of impaired driving causing injury in connection with a violent collision that left numerous injured in December, near the Valcartier military base.

Gabriel Cloutier was officially indicted at the Quebec courthouse after being arrested Friday morning.

He faces seven counts of driving while impaired causing harm and seven counts of driving with a blood alcohol level greater than 0.08 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood causing harm.

A total of seven people were injured in the violent collision on December 9, 2023, which involved three vehicles.

Seven injured

According to the information that was disclosed by the police at that time, Cloutier deviated from his trajectory while he was traveling on the Route de la Bravoure around 11:30 p.m.

Finding himself in the opposite direction, he allegedly collided head-on with a car in which there were five passengers, all of whom were injured. Two other people in a third car involved in the collision also suffered injuries according to the indictment filed against the individual.

It was the latter who suffered the most serious injuries according to the authorities. The extrication pliers were necessary to manage to get him out of the passenger compartment of his car.

Three ambulances had to be deployed to the scene.


Antecedent

The Crown opposed the release of Gabriel Cloutier. His release hearing has been set for next Monday.

The 30-year-old man has a criminal history of impaired driving. He was sentenced to a fine of $1,500 and 12 months of confiscation of his driving license for an offense that occurred in January 2019.
