Madina Gounass, May 3 (APS) – The President of the Republic asked the guides of the Tidjan community of Medina Gounass (south) to pray for the preservation of peace in Senegal and the success of the exercise of his mandate, noted by the APS on Friday.
”We thank God for coming to ‘daakaa’, a site dedicated to prayer, and ask everyone to pray for themselves, for their family, especially for Senegal and the new authorities with a view to success of their mission,” said Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
The head of state was speaking after praying “takusaan”, “salat asr”, in the early evening, at the “daakaa” site, where the annual pilgrimage is held. of Madina Gounass, alongside the caliph of this city, Thierno Amadou Tidiane Ba.
”The success of our mission is a success for all of Senegal. This is why we ask you to pray for us,” added the President of the Republic, addressing the guide of the Tidjan community of Madina Gounass.
Mr. Faye made a courtesy visit to this Muslim guide, on the occasion of the 83eedition of the ”daakaa” of the said city, an annual pilgrimage of around ten days, the present edition of which has been held since Saturday April 27.
”The new authorities of the country have great regard for religious guides,” continued the Head of State, recalling having created a department in charge of religious affairs at the Presidency of the Republic.
”Senegal remains a stable country,” added Mr. Faye, believing that the Senegalese owe this in part to their religious guides.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye deplored the war in the Middle East and that between Russia and Ukraine.
He was delighted with the holding of the ”daakaa” and the presence at each of its editions of thousands of Muslim faithful from the 14 regions of Senegal, and from other countries as well.
Mr. Faye said he wanted to make this courtesy visit to the Caliph of Madina Gounass as President of the Republic, member of the religious guide’s family and ”disciple”.
Thierno Ibnou Oumar Bâ, the Caliph’s spokesperson, welcomed the visit of the President of the Republic to Madina Gounass and his meditation at the site of the ”daakaa”. ”Your presence brings immense joy to us,” he told the head of state.
The Caliph wished Bassirou Diomaye Faye every success in the exercise of his duties and offered him books.
